We all have many things to be thankful for, not the least of which is a safe home and country – something that wouldn't be possible without the sacrifice that so many have made. Below is a link to a sad, sobering story about one man who gave, then suffered for a lifetime because of it. It serves to remind us all how much we have to be truly thankful for.
Do you hunt upland birds in forest-type habitats, where everything starts to look the same once you've gone a few hundred yards and can no longer see your vehicle? If you're not totally familiar with the area, that can be a little unnerving.
Bushnell has come out with an affordable product that can eliminate some of that trepidation. And it's not only well-suited for days in the grouse or turkey woods, but anytime you want to get back to a particular place after venturing off somewhere else, and that place is difficult to find visually (think car in a sports stadium parking lot).
It's called the BackTrack, and it's a GPS unit that looks like a hiker's compass. It's extremely easy to use – there are only two buttons to worry about – and it can store up to three locations. And here's the best part: it costs only $69.
The unit combines advanced GPS technology with a digital compass and presents them in a compact design. It's powered by two AAA batteries and will run for more than 100 uses (one use is equal to 10 minutes or less). The unit automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of non-use.
Because of its size, it'll fit in just about any pocket or pack, and it comes with a lanyard for extra security. There are five different colors to choose from.
Pass It On endorsed 11/13/2008 Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, Inc. has received an endorsement from the National Forum on Children and Nature as one of 30 projects nationwide that demonstrate new and creative ways to reconnect kids with nature. Pass It On was the only project with a focus on hunting and firearms to receive an endorsement.
Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors partners with youth mentoring organizations and outdoor groups to recruit mentors who share their love and passion of the outdoors with a child. Targeting at-risk youth, Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors gives children who have limited opportunities the chance to experience firsthand the thrill of time spent afield to learn to hunt, fish, camp and hike under the tutelage of a caring adult mentor.

NASGW winners list 11/6/2008 The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) announced the 2008 winners of its prestigious Industry Achievement Awards this week at the association's Annual Expo in Atlanta. ’s famed Mart Facility. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the annual meeting and events, and this year the introduced an enhanced awards program to honor its outstanding manufacturers.
The NASGW has researched how other groups outside of the shooting sports industry evaluate and recognize their outstanding vendors, and from this research it developed a more accurate and balanced assessment program. The new program allows the industry’s leading distributors – NASGW wholesaler members – to select and honor the association’s top manufacturers in several key categories, including distribution policy, marketing, promotions and sales, logistics and operations and NASGW and industry support.
"Each winner exemplifies the true meaning of excellence and sets the benchmark for excellence in our industry,” said Mike Brown, chairman of the NASGW board of directors. “As always, there were many exceptional nominees to consider, all of whom contribute profoundly to the future growth of the industry. Flanigan and the fighter 11/5/2008 Exhibition shooter Patrick Flanigan recently put on a show that featured mixed martial arts competitor Matt Hughes. The fighter proved that he's no slouch with a shotgun himself.
